The Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo remains in a delicate state of health after confirming the death of his wife, Yanina Maranella, and his two children, Aarón and Ainhoa, as a result of the earthquakes that shook Venezuela on June 24.
The player’s sister has explained that Trejo is sedated and is going through a “very bad” moment, since he remains alone in the country. “He doesn’t have any relatives there. They have to give him the bodies of his children, his wife, and come back to Argentina. His relatives tell me that he needs his relatives there,” he said.
The defender’s wife and two children were found dead in the Venezuelan state of La Guaira, the area most affected by the earthquakes, as confirmed by Sport Marítimo La Guaira, the club in which the footballer plays.
Trejo, 38, survived because at the time of the earthquake he was training with his team in Caracas. However, his family was trapped after the collapse of the building in which he lived, located in Playa Grande, a town near the Maiquetía international airport, one of the areas that suffered the greatest damage.
The bodies were found 74 hours later
The bodies were found after 74 hours of searching by rescue teams. Sport Marítimo La Guaira officially confirmed the news by issuing a statement online: “In this moment of immense pain, we raise our prayers for the eternal rest of their souls and for the strength of Lucas and his loved ones.”
The entity also expressed its support for the player: “We accompany you with all our hearts, with respect, unity and solidarity. Your teammates, the coaching staff, the board of directors and all our fans send you a fraternal hug.”
Trejo arrived at the Venezuelan team last February from Portuguesa. Throughout his career he has developed a good part of his career outside Argentina, with stages in Mexico, Peru, Greece and Venezuela.
In his native country he wore the shirts of Sportivo Belgrano, Instituto and Racing de Córdoba. Precisely this last club wanted to publicly show its support for the former soccer player with a message in X: “We embrace and accompany Lucas Trejo in his deep mourning, after the irreparable loss of his wife and children due to the tragedy that occurred in Venezuela.”
