‘Liverpool could greatly benefit from Osimhen’s presence’

Former Liverpool defender, Steve Nicol, has expressed his strong recommendation for Liverpool to make a bold move in acquiring Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, according to PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Osimhen, who transferred from Lille to Napoli in 2020, recently secured an improved contract with the Italian club last December, boosting his monthly earnings to €1.5m, which is nearly double his previous salary.

Despite finalizing a new deal that includes a release clause worth £113m, the Nigerian international has garnered significant interest from various top clubs in Europe. This surge in attention comes after his impressive performance last season, where he scored 31 goals in 39 matches and crucially assisted Napoli in securing their first league title in over thirty years.

During an interview with ESPN, Nicol, who represented Liverpool in over 340 games from 1981 to 1994, emphasized the potential of Osimhen joining the Reds as a fantastic strategic move.

“It’s apparent that Salah will be departing, whether this season or the next,” the 62-year-old commentator remarked.

“Incorporating Osimhen could be a game-changer for Liverpool. He is the missing piece in the puzzle. With recent signings like Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and the exceptional performance of Endo, Liverpool requires a player who can provide relentless energy and support to Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Salah.”
