Lawyer Urges Kogi Assembly to Impeach Gov Ododo for Preventing EFCC Arrest of Yahaya Bello

Calling for decisive action, human rights lawyer Deji Ajare has appealed to the Kogi State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Usman Ododo. Ajare’s plea comes in the wake of Ododo’s intervention to shield his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, from an impending arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Accusing Ododo of employing his motorcade to help Bello evade custody, Ajare condemned this act as harboring a fugitive, obstructing justice, and misusing state resources.

Ododo’s involvement in aiding Bello’s avoidance of arrest over alleged fraud totaling over N80 billion has sparked outrage and demands for accountability.

In a letter directed to the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Yusuf, Ajare urged for a thorough investigation into the governor’s actions. The lawyer emphasized the need for impeachment proceedings should Ododo be found guilty of any misconduct.

Highlighting the grave allegations and potential breaches of constitutional duties entailed, Ajare stressed the importance of upholding the law and ensuring those responsible face consequences if found culpable.

In light of the situation, the EFCC had declared the former governor wanted as he managed to evade arrest attempts in Abuja, raising widespread concern about his whereabouts.
