Landlord brought to Court for Allegedly Removing Tenant’s Roof

Appearing in a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, a 51-year-old landlord named Abolaji Ismahil faced charges of removing the roof of his tenant’s apartment.

Residing in the Mushin area of Lagos, Ismahil entered a plea of not guilty to charges of conspiracy, breach of public peace, and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, detailed that Ismahil and accomplices carried out the act on Dec.13, 2023, at No 40, Kekereowo St., Itire, Surulere, Lagos.

It was alleged that Ismahil dismantled ten zinc roofing sheets from the complainant’s apartment, Lawal Ismail, after multiple failed attempts to collect rent.

Ekhueorohan also mentioned that the complainant reported missing items such as HP Laptops, a gold chain, and two wristwatches from the apartment.

These actions reportedly violated Sections 168, 287, and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Mr. Ganiyu Tiamiyu, the Magistrate, granted Ismahil bail of N100,000 and required two responsible sureties for the release.

He stipulated that the court verify the addresses of the sureties and scheduled the case for further mention on March 13.
