Ensuring Safety for the Northwest Derby in Katsina

Designated as high risk by the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is the upcoming matchday 22 fixture between Katsina United and Kano Pillars.

This designation is based on the historical rivalry between the supporters of these clubs in the Northwest region.

In a proactive move, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, has emphasized the importance of taking preemptive measures to prevent any incidents before, during, and after the match.

Owumi is optimistic that the implemented measures and proactive dialogue with both clubs will create a safe and conducive environment for the match to proceed smoothly.

He communicated, “We have identified past fan issues during matches involving your teams and have taken precautions to avoid any such undesirable occurrences during the Matchday 22 fixture.”

He added, “Our Head of Security, Henry Chijioke, will be present at the match to collaborate with the State FA and both clubs in ensuring adequate security and crowd management measures are in place.”

The anticipated match will take place at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Wednesday, February 28.
