KEYS OF THE COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE US AND THE EU: VON DER LEYAN PACK WITH TRUMP A 15% TARANCEL TO ALL ITS PRODUCTS

The commercial agreement was achieved after a long -awaited meeting between Trump and the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in the golf complex of the Republican leader in Turnberry, Scotland.

“I think we both wanted to reach a satisfactory agreement for both parties,” Trump said on Sunday afternoon, while added that the pact “will be very good for everyone.”

Tariffs to all products, except pharmacists

This 15% fixed tariff will apply to EU imports, including cars. The good news is that European pharmaceutical products are exempt from the commercial punishment measureas confirmed Trump.

The agreement contemplates that the EU buys US energy worth $ 750,000 million and invests $ 600,000 million in the United States “beyond” what Trump has already promised. The European bloc will also buy “large amounts of military (American) equipment,” added the republican leader.

US export with “zero” tariff

On the other hand, Trump explained that the EU will “open” its markets to allow US exports to enter the block with a “zero” tariff.

Bilateral “zero tariffs were also agreed for a series of” strategic products “including aerospace components, certain chemicals, agricultural products, natural resources and raw materials.

In 2024, the European Union exported goods to the US worth 606,000 million dollars, compared to the 370,000 million exported in reverse, which shows a deficit of 236,000 million for the North American country, according to official data that does not include services.

Trump tariffs so far

The news of the agreement ends several months of intense efforts by the heads of state and government of the EU to negotiate a reduction of the drastic taxes of Trump, who have disrupted the world supply chains and aggravated the growing economic discomfort of the EU.

To date, Trump has imposed 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum, 25% of cars and their pieces, and a general tax of 10% to most of the rest of the exports of the EU, which affects the goods of the community block for about 370,000 million euros, equivalent to 70% of European exports to the United States.

In recent days, EU member countries were confident that Brussels could reach an agreement similar to that Washington signed last week with Japan, which maintained a general tax of 15% for cars and most other goods, although not for steel and aluminum.
