Key suspect behind Abuja-Kaduna train attack apprehended by police


Following a notable achievement, operatives from the Kaduna State Police Command have successfully detained one Ibrahim Abdullahi, known as Mande, suspected to be the architect of the malicious Abuja-Kaduna train attack that took place in March 2022. This breakthrough was confirmed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during the suspect’s presentation at the Kaduna Police Headquarters on Thursday.

According to Adejobi, the arrest of Mande was made possible by credible intelligence gathered at the Abuja-Kaduna Road flyover near Rido Junction in Chikun Local Government Area. The suspect has reportedly admitted to heading a criminal syndicate notorious for instilling fear along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. His name now stands alongside other infamous bandits such as Dogo Gide and Bello Turji.

The Force PRO went on to reveal that additional arrests were made, including the capture of another prominent leader of a kidnapping gang responsible for orchestrating the destructive attack on the Saint Raphael Catholic Church in Fadan Kamantan in September 2023. Tragically, during the incident, a seminarian lost his life in the ensuing fire that consumed the church and the priest’s residence.

The diligent efforts of the police led to the capture of Yakubu Saidu, identified as the ringleader of the notorious kidnapping gang. In his confession, he admitted to his involvement in the tragic events that unfolded at the church. Further arrests were made, including Shedrack John, accused of aiding kidnappers by providing medical aid to injured criminals in the forest, as well as Auwal Hassan, Auwal Ahmed, and Auwal Adamu.

Reassuring the public, the Force spokesperson emphasized the unwavering commitment of the police leadership, led by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to upholding the rule of law, ensuring the safety of all citizens, and combating criminal activities nationwide.
