Israel Vows Military Operation in Rafah Despite WHO Warning

Amid growing tensions, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued a stark warning regarding the potential consequences of Israel’s planned military operation in Rafah.

On Saturday, the organization highlighted the risks on its official webpage.

Expressing concerns, WHO stated that an incursion into the southern border town of Rafah could result in a severe humanitarian crisis, foreseeing a scenario of violence.

The WHO pointed out that over 1.2 million individuals are currently seeking refuge in the region, with many unable to relocate elsewhere.

The organization emphasized that any further displacement would worsen overcrowding, leading to restricted access to essential services like food, water, healthcare, and sanitation. This, in turn, could trigger more outbreaks of diseases, exacerbate hunger levels, and result in additional loss of life.

Highlighting the strained healthcare system in Gaza, the WHO revealed that only a fraction of hospitals and healthcare centers are operational due to ongoing attacks and a critical shortage of medical resources, fuel, and personnel.

Urging for immediate action, the WHO called for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire and urged for the removal of barriers hindering the distribution of crucial humanitarian aid within Gaza, stressing the urgent need for substantial assistance.

Despite these warnings, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains resolute in launching an offensive in Rafah with the aim of eradicating the remaining strongholds of Hamas.
