Iran curbs US optimism about the end of the conflict: "Diplomacy takes time"

After several weeks of stagnation and with the constant uncertainty of a military offensive that Donald Trump has threatened to reactivate at any time, the conflict between the United States and Iran is once again going through a critical phase.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has admitted a “slight progress” in contacts between both countries, describing the progress as “positive. However, his message includes a clear warning: the United States will not allow Tehran to establish a toll system in the Strait of Hormuz.

Along these same lines, President Donald Trump has raised the tone by stating that Iran “is dying to reach an agreement” to end the conflict. “We hit them hard and we had no other option, because Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” said the American president, who has maintained the threat of breaking the ceasefire in force since April if the conditions are not met.

Tehran’s position: “We are not close”

On Tehran’s part, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Minister, Ismail Bagaeil, has denied that the signing of a possible pact is imminent: “we cannot necessarily affirm that we have reached a point where the agreement is close”, in addition to insisting that the differences with the United States remain “very deep and numerous.”

The Iranian diplomat has clarified that it is impossible to advance resolutions in a matter of weeks, since “diplomacy takes time.” It has also confirmed the presence of diplomatic delegations from Pakistan and Qatar in Tehran to try to mediate.

According to local media, Iran demands an end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, the complete lifting of economic sanctions, the release of blocked Iranian assets, compensation for war damages and the recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Demands that clash head-on with the conditions of the Trump administration, which continues to pressure to stop the enrichment of Iranian uranium, while maintaining the threat of breaking the ceasefire and resuming the military offensive against the Islamic Republic.

A Donald Trump who, in the midst of the conflict with Iran and threats against Cuba, has confirmed that he will not attend his eldest son’s wedding in the Bahamas due to his “commitment” and his “love for the United States.”
