Inspector General of Police in Ogun State Declares Tougher Stance Against Criminals

With a firm resolve, the Inspector General of Police in Ogun State, Kayode Egbetokun, has assured that kidnappers and other criminal elements causing unrest in the state will face more stringent measures.

During a recent visit to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the IG, accompanied by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) zone ll, Olatoye Durosimi, and the state commissioner of police, Abiodun Alamutu, urged the officers to intensify their efforts in combating crime.

In response to the need for additional security measures, the IG approved the immediate establishment of more Area Commands in Ifo, Imeko, and Ipokia regions of the state.

Addressing stakeholders and members of the police force, the IG emphasized the importance of enhancing support to effectively tackle criminal activities in Ogun State.

“In response to the request for an area command in Ifo, I am pleased to announce its approval. Furthermore, we will establish two additional area commands in the border areas of Idiroko and Imeko,” stated the IG.

Regarding concerns about manpower, inadequate vehicles, and operational logistics, the IG assured comprehensive attention to address these issues for the Ogun state command.

On the persistent challenge of kidnapping, despite existing checkpoints and porous borders, the IG pledged to tackle this menace with the support of the CP.

“We are committed to taking all necessary steps to combat kidnapping in Ogun State. Although isolated crimes occur, they do not define the overall tranquility of the state.

“While no state is devoid of crime, Ogun State stands out for its relatively low crime rates. However, we will not tolerate any criminal activities and will take decisive action to minimize them,” affirmed the IG.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, highlighted Ogun’s reputation as one of the safest states in Nigeria despite security challenges.

Alamutu expressed confidence that the IG’s visit would inspire the officers and enhance service delivery.

He reiterated the commitment of the police under Ogun’s command to uphold the ideals and vision of the force.

During the visit, Egbetokun met with Governor Dapo Abiodun and inaugurated the newly constructed Ogun State Police Command headquarters, technical intelligence unit, and complaints unit on the premises.

The IG is also scheduled to meet with the paramount rulers of Egba, Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa.
