Important Loan Documents to be Submitted to Kaduna Assembly Today

The expected submission of all loan-related documents from the previous administration of Nasir El-Rufai to the Kaduna State House of Assembly is scheduled for today by the Kaduna State Ministry of Finance.

In a directive with reference number LEG/S. 382/VOL. II/615, the Assembly has requested the Commissioner for Finance to provide the Clerk, Sakinatu Idris, with the necessary documents regarding financial transactions between 2015 and May 2023 under El-Rufai’s governance by 10 am today.

The Assembly seeks 30 copies of each document from the finance ministry, including memoranda and papers linked to the financial dealings of the stated period.

On April 16, a 13-member panel was established by the Assembly to scrutinize all financial activities, loans, and contracted projects carried out during El-Rufai’s tenure.

The probe initiated by the state Assembly follows Governor Uba Sani’s lamentation about the substantial debt left behind by El-Rufai, which he disclosed during a town hall meeting in Kaduna. Sani highlighted challenges in meeting salary obligations due to the inherited financial burdens.

Despite the inherited debt and contractual liabilities, Sani affirmed the dedication to progressing and developing Kaduna State sustainably through comprehensive evaluation and strategic planning.

A letter addressed to the finance commissioner from the Assembly emphasized the requirement for specific documents related to the loans and financial management, underscoring the importance of transparency in governance practices.
