Court in Ilorin detains 14 individuals believed to be part of a cult<

On Wednesday, an Ilorin Magistrate court remanded fourteen individuals suspected of being affiliated with the Eiye secret cult.

They have been linked to clashes between rival cult groups that took place over the past weekend in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The state police command had taken into custody a total of 46 suspects accused of instigating violence related to cult activities in Ilorin, causing the death of one person and numerous injuries.

As per the information provided by the police, the victims, who sustained facial injuries during the attack, reported to the authorities that they were targeted after questioning why a transaction of N6,000 they had attempted at a Point of Sales (POS) service with an individual named Ibrahim Rasheed had failed.

Based on the police probe, the suspects allegedly assaulted the victims, seizing phones valued at N2.3 million, a Rolex wristwatch, N500,000 in cash, and also causing damage to their vehicles.

Additionally, according to the police report, the detained suspects, along with others who remain at large, are believed to be members of the Aiye and Eiye secret cults. They were responsible for a violent spree, attacking, injuring, and even killing innocent individuals while damaging properties across Ilorin and its outskirts.

Despite the pleas for bail from their legal representatives, the presiding Magistrate, Issa Agbetola, rejected the requests and ordered that the suspects be held in Mandala Correctional facility until May 8, 2024.
