Reflecting on a Disappointing Arsenal Exit: Tella’s Story

In a recent interview, Nigeria winger Nathan Tella shared his thoughts on the disappointing end to his time at Arsenal.

The now-24-year-old had been a part of the North London club for a decade before being let go in 2017 due to not meeting the club’s standards.

Prior to finding his place at Southampton, Tella faced rejections from Reading and Norwich City as well.

After a loan spell at Burnley, he moved on to Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning champions of the Bundesliga, in the last summer transfer window.

Despite not being a regular starter at BayArena, Tella played a significant role in the team’s Bundesliga triumph.

Besides excelling in the Bundesliga, Die Werkself find themselves in the final of the DFB Pokal and the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

Recalling his departure from Arsenal, Tella expressed, “I couldn’t fathom it; Arsenal had been my life since I was scouted at the age of six.”

He further shared, “It was a challenging period as I was uncertain of what to do next. Should I stay put at Arsenal and try to change their decision, or venture out for trials?”

Seeking advice from his family and agent, Tella eventually decided to explore opportunities beyond his comfort zone.
