Charly Boy condemns Onanuga’s derogatory remark about Obi

Veteran musician, Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has criticized Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, for labeling the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as “bitter”.

Onanuga had used the term “Bitter Obi” in a tweet mocking Peter Obi’s recent appearance in Canada.

Reacting to this, Charly Boy expressed his disapproval of Onanuga’s behavior, deeming the derogatory name-calling of Obi, who has not been associated with any violence against the state or government, as unnecessary.

He advised the presidential aide to direct his attention towards addressing the devaluation of the Naira in the forex market, the prevalent insecurity, hunger, poverty, and corruption affecting his boss’s administration.

In a post on his social media handle, Charly Boy wrote on Monday: “It is disappointing to see Mr. Bayo Onanuga refer to HE Peter Obi as ‘Bitter Obi’. This kind of derogatory language towards an active and committed citizen like HE Peter Obi, who has never endorsed any form of violence against the government or state, is unjustified.

“Attacking HE Peter Obi is essentially an attack on all well-meaning Nigerians who support him. Mr. Bayo should desist from such assaults on Obi as this does not contribute to fostering good governance in Nigeria.

“He should instead focus on addressing the issues of the weakening Naira, rising insecurity, widespread hunger, poverty, and the corruption that is plaguing the ineffective Tinubu government.”
