Felix Akhabue, a former Edo State governorship aspirant, leaves PDP

In a recent development, Felix Akhabue, who previously aspired for the governorship under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has officially departed from the party.

Reports indicate that Akhabue was among ten governorship hopefuls who expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the party’s ward and local government congresses leading up to the primary election held in February.

Akhabue, who previously served as chairman of Esan West Local Government Area and as the Commissioner for Wealth Creation, Cooperative and Industry during Governor Godwin Obaseki’s initial term, submitted his resignation in a letter dated May 6, 2024. The letter was addressed to the Ward 7 chairman of the party in Esan West Local Government Area.

He also sent copies of his resignation letter to the Chairman of Esan West LGA, the state chairman, and the National Working Committee of the party.

His resignation letter stated: “I am formally informing the party through your office of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) going forward. My choice to leave is a result of the party leadership’s biased actions that hindered my fair and consistent participation within the party.”

Expressing his gratitude, Akhabue added, “I would like to thank the genuine friends I have had the privilege to work with in the party over the years.”

Akhabue is affiliated with the Legacy Group faction of the PDP in the state.
