Heightened Youth Gangsterism and Insecurity Prompt Adamawa Government’s New Initiatives

In response to the escalating incidents involving young gangsters known as Shila Boys, the Adamawa State Government has initiated fresh measures.

These gang members, primarily teenagers, frequently use knives to steal phones and other lightweight items from residents.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the state Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, addressed the press on Tuesday, highlighting the need for a new approach.

Farauta emphasized the importance of urging all youths engaged in anti-social activities to reconsider their actions, calling on parents to play a proactive role in this regard.

“We also implore parents to ensure that our youth are engaged in positive and constructive endeavors,” she remarked.

While refraining from disclosing specific security strategies, Farauta hinted at undisclosed proactive measures being implemented by the government to combat the Shila Boys attacks.

She reassured the public that the Fintiri administration, which successfully tackled the Shila Boys issue in 2019, is prepared to address the reemergence of this threat.

Recent reports indicate that Shila Boys have become a significant concern for residents of Yola North, Yola South, and Girei, with frequent police arrests being made.

Despite these arrests, the gang members continue to harass residents and commit theft at knifepoint both during the day and at night.
