Heartbreaking images are circulating on the internet, depicting a young woman displaying her engagement ring to her elderly grandfather through a nursing home window, prompted by the coronavirus outbreak.
At 22 years old, Boyd is a student at Southeastern Community College, pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse (RN). Her partner, Trevor Sellers, a Department of Transportation contractor, proposed to her last weekend.
The woman, hailing from North Carolina, was determined to share this momentous occasion with her grandfather, despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus.
Boyd had to convey her joyous news to her grandfather from outside the window of his nursing home at the Premier Living and Rehab Center in Lake Waccamaw, in compliance with coronavirus restrictions.
These regulations were implemented by the government to safeguard the elderly, who are especially vulnerable to the virus.
Carly was taken to her grandfather’s window, where he could be seen resting on his bed.
At one point, she and her grandfather placed their hands on either side of the window, symbolizing a shared special moment.
‘I really wanted to be able to tell my grandfather because he has dementia and there’s no phone in there that he has access to,’ Carly expressed to KOLD. ‘I just really wanted to make an effort to tell him.’
‘The staff said ‘Well we can walk around the building and we can pull the blinds up and you can tell him through the window’ and I was like ‘Yes, I would love to!” she recounted.
The facility’s administrator, Gennie Parnell, captured the emotional moment as Carly exhibited her ring.
‘I just … it was very –oh my gosh, I’m going to cry — it was very special,’ Carly expressed emotionally.
‘I got really emotional and really sad and I just put my hand on the window, and he put his there too. I just told him I love him, and he said ‘I love you too and I hope to see you soon’, like really see you.’
