The announcement comes just as 1,000 days have passed since the Israeli offensive launched after the October 7 attacks.
“His Excellency, the head of the Government Emergency Committee and acting head of Government Monitoring, has decided to formally resign from his position and announce the dissolution of the Government Emergency Committee,” said Ismail al Thawabta, director of the media office of the Hamas government in Gaza.
The officials will remain in their positions, explained the Hamas communications chief in Gaza, although the de facto government – the so-called Emergency Committee – will be dissolved. The technical and professional staff of the Gaza administration will continue in their positions. “We firmly affirm that all employees providing services are state employees and are fully prepared and ready to work under the responsibility of the national committee for the management of Gaza,” according to Ismail al Thawabta.
For now, the government will continue on an interim basis until the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza assumes its functions.
The Gazan authorities will hand over control to this technocratic committee backed by Donald Trump’s Peace Board, thus putting pressure on the president of the United States to implement the second phase of his plan in the Gaza Strip. The goal, according to Hamas, is to heal the wounds of the Palestinian people.
