Tragedy Strikes: Community Leader Assassinated in Ebonyi State
In a shocking turn of events, gunmen launched a deadly attack on Umuihe autonomous community in Akaeze, Ebonyi State, resulting in the tragic death of the community’s revered traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Umazi Ibo Ubani.
The assault, which took place over the weekend, was marked by intense gunfire, sending residents into a frenzy as they sought refuge from the violence.
Mr. Chinasa Okorie, the Coordinator of Akaeze Development Centre, officially confirmed the harrowing incident, revealing that the brutal attack occurred late in the evening last Friday.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, Okorie lamented the irreplaceable nature of the slain monarch, praising his courage, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his community.
According to Okorie, the late monarch, aged in his 60s, was renowned for his integrity and outstanding leadership qualities, leaving a significant void in the community and beyond.
Describing the monarch as a beacon of honesty and courage, Okorie emphasized the profound impact of the monarch’s untimely demise on the local government and the larger Ebonyi State.
“The tragic shooting incident at the residence of our revered traditional ruler, HRH Eze Umazi Ibo Ubani, around 10 pm last Friday, has left our community in mourning. His legacy of integrity and selflessness will forever be remembered,” Okorie remarked solemnly.
Okorie stressed that the true motive behind the attack remains unknown, underscoring the importance of swift action by law enforcement agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace to the embattled community.
Meanwhile, Sinbad Ogbuatu, another community stakeholder, expressed concern over the heightened tension and fear gripping the residents following the heinous incident, which disrupted normal activities in the area.
In response to the tragic event, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, assured the public that efforts were underway to track down the assailants and bring them to justice.
“Upon receiving reports of the attack, our officers promptly responded, although the perpetrators had fled the scene. Rest assured, we are diligently pursuing all leads to apprehend those responsible for this cowardly act,” DSP Ukandu affirmed.
