Tragic events unfolded in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state as gunmen launched a series of attacks, claiming the lives of at least 18 individuals.
The assault targeted Tilengpan community in Mangu Local Government area, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals. Additionally, six more people lost their lives in four Bokkos communities, including a university student who was fatally attacked last night.
Chairman of Mangu local government area, Monday Kassam, confirmed the horrifying incident, revealing that the gunmen conducted deadly raids on four different communities.
According to Kassam, the gunmen forcefully entered these communities, including an off-campus hostel of Plateau State University students, where they proceeded to fire shots into the air as a warning signal of their presence.
In a statement issued by the chairman, it was stated: “The next morning, a large group of students held a demonstration, during which one of them was tragically shot, as per the eyewitnesses’ accounts.
“Despite the security presence, the armed militia returned the following morning. Security forces engaged in pursuit, resulting in multiple casualties. Yesterday’s reports indicated six fatalities.”
