Governor Oborevwori: ‘Functional refineries key to solving Nigeria’s forex crisis’

According to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, addressing the refineries in Nigeria could potentially put an end to the need for the country to spend foreign currency on fuel imports.

During a meeting at the Government House in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori made these remarks while hosting the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Turnaround Maintenance of Nigerian Refineries, which was headed by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

He emphasized that halting the import of petroleum products would ease the pressure on the naira against the dollar and urged the Federal Government to ramp up efforts in reviving the nation’s refineries.

Expressing his confidence in the committee, the governor stressed the importance of the assignment, highlighting the significant impact that functional refineries could have on the economy.

He assured the committee of Delta State’s full support and commitment to assisting in their oversight responsibilities.

Senator Ubah also chimed in, outlining the objectives of the ad hoc committee’s visit to the state, which included addressing refinery rehabilitation, curbing crude oil theft, optimizing crude oil production, and supporting various issues affecting the Niger Delta region.

He mentioned that the committee, representing a diverse range of concerns, visited the governor as a sign of respect and collaboration.
