Solving Nigeria’s Forex Crisis with Functional Refineries – Insights from Oborevwori

Highlighting the significance of repairing Nigeria’s refineries, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State emphasized the potential to reduce the country’s reliance on foreign exchange for fuel imports.

During a meeting with the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Turnaround Maintenance of Nigerian Refineries, led by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, at Government House in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori conveyed his views on the matter.

He urged the Federal Government to prioritize the revival of the nation’s refineries to alleviate pressures on the naira against the dollar and enhance the economy.

Expressing confidence in the committee’s task, Governor Oborevwori stressed the need for proactive measures to address the challenges posed by fuel importation and foreign exchange constraints.

“Efficient refineries will not only eliminate the need for fuel imports but also contribute to economic growth. Our support from Delta State is assured to facilitate your oversight responsibilities,” he assured.

Senator Ubah, earlier in the visit, outlined the committee’s objectives in overseeing the rehabilitation of refineries, combatting crude oil theft, optimizing oil production, and addressing regional issues within the Niger Delta.

He mentioned, “This comprehensive approach encompasses various aspects of oil production and regional development. As part of our protocol, we are honored to engage with you, the Executive Governor, following our recent meeting with the Governor of Rivers State.”
