‘There’d have been casualties’ – EFCC boss on why he failed to arrest Yahaya Bello

Explaining the situation, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, discussed the reasons behind the agency’s decision not to forcefully enter the residence of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.

During a recent press briefing, Olukoyede revealed, “We encountered over 30 armed policemen and 10 Counter Terrorist Unit personnel with Yahaya Bello. Accompanied by more than 50 of my brave men, engaging in a confrontation would have resulted in an exchange of gunfire and potential casualties,” highlighting the intensity of the situation.

Following the failed attempt by the anti-graft agency to apprehend Bello at his Abuja home, the ex-governor has been evading capture and is reportedly being shielded by the current governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo.

He has, as a result, been placed on the watch list of various security agencies across the country.
