Government in Nigeria Commits to Backing Training for Teaching Hospital Staff

Ensuring proper training for personnel in teaching hospitals and tertiary health institutions to tackle evolving healthcare challenges has received a commitment from the Federal Government.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima made this pledge during a meeting with the management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, led by its Chief Medical Director, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

Highlighting the prioritization of improved healthcare delivery in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Vice President commended the current management of the institution for its significant achievements over the years.

He also affirmed the government’s dedication to fostering human capacity development in hospitals nationwide.

“Training is of utmost importance; we will explore various avenues to support the Maiduguri teaching hospital and other similar institutions in training their workforce,” stated the Vice President.

“We will assess how our collaboration with the private sector can contribute to this initiative.

“I applaud the CMD and his team for offering exceptional leadership to the hospital and its staff. Since assuming office, there have been notable enhancements at the hospital.

“From increasing the hospital’s capacity from 600 to 1305 beds and modernizing its facilities, the CMD has been proactive in all aspects, including securing external funding,” he added.

Prior to this, Ahidjo expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s support towards the institution and presented an overview of the hospital’s achievements along with future plans.

With government and other stakeholders’ assistance, the hospital now boasts cutting-edge equipment, according to the CMD.
