Former Chairman, Habib: Kwankwaso’s Impact Strengthens NNPP’s Prominence

Hisham Habib, a pioneer Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, has expressed disagreement with the remarks made by the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Boniface Aniebonum, alleging betrayal by Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya group.

Instead, Hisham asserted that the entrance of Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader and Presidential Candidate of NNPP in 2023, significantly elevated the party’s status more than ever before.

Having been a member and witness to the party’s activities pre and post Kwankwaso’s involvement, Hisham deemed the comments attributed to the party’s founder as lacking in decorum and satisfaction.

He highlighted that the party was at its lowest point with weak structures, particularly at the state level, until Kwankwaso’s arrival with his supporters, indicating that the founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and his loyalists should appreciate the impact of having Kwankwaso join a party that previously struggled to sponsor delegates for a convention, let alone win elections.

“Kwankwaso’s entry marked NNPP’s first significant victory, evidenced by our unprecedented million-vote win in the governorship election, a milestone unmatched by any other governor,” he remarked. “Furthermore, the Party’s notable presence in the national assembly was remarkable.”

Emphasizing the need for the Chairman of the Board of Trustees to exhibit the maturity befitting a statesman and disregard the disruptive agendas of the saboteurs, Hisham underlined that Kwankwaso’s consistency in dealings with his supporters has earned him both national and global respect.

According to the former Chairman, Nigerians from diverse backgrounds joined the party due to Kwankwaso’s stature as a former Defense minister, with a majority viewing him as the natural leader owing to his political track record.
