Five Individuals Apprehended by Police for Engaging in Thuggery and Robbery in Niger

Authorities at the Niger State Police command have apprehended a total of five individuals who are suspected to be involved in acts of thuggery and armed robbery within the Maitunbi region of Minna, the capital city of the state.

During the disclosure of this information in Minna, the state capital, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun provided details while presenting the captured suspects.

The individuals in question are Saifulahi Mohammed, Nazifi Basiru, Nura Basiru, Ifeanyi John, and Ludu Haruna, all residents of Maitumbi in Minna.

An account given by him stated, “The apprehension is part of the continuous efforts to crack down on criminal activities in Minna and its adjacent areas. On May 10, 2024, between the hours of 0100hrs and 0230hrs, the Maitumbi Divisional Police Officer (DPO) supervised an operation involving a patrol team in collaboration with local vigilantes, targeting hideouts in Angwan-Roka, Angwan-Kadara, and Saiko areas of Maitumbi where the suspects were located.”

It was mentioned that various dangerous weapons, such as One cutlass, Three knives, Three scissors, Suspected Indian hemp, Cigarettes and lighters, Charms, phones, and some money that were used in the robbery of their victims were seized during the operation.

The PRO added that once the investigation is completed, the suspects will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further interrogation and prosecution.
