Climate Change and Forced Migration Blamed for Instability in the Northern Region by Ganduje

Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, attributes the instability in the North to climate change causing the migration of herders to other parts of Nigeria and widespread illiteracy among the Fulani community.

Ganduje made these assertions at a Fulfulde Poetry Competition organized by Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto at the institution’s auditorium.

According to the APC stalwart, the relationship between farmers and herders used to be mutually beneficial.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State mentioned that the government is heavily investing in intelligence gathering and information sharing to enhance security prevention in the state.

He emphasized, “The security apparatuses are being strengthened through the provision of tools and training, empowering the community to actively participate in securing the neighborhood.”

Represented by his Deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, Aliyu expressed that the government will continue to prioritize community engagement and dialogue to build trust and cooperation between security forces and citizens through town hall meetings, community policy initiatives, and the establishment of neighborhood watch groups.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Lawal Suleiman Bilbis, highlighted the historical use of poetry to promote peace and stability among diverse communities.
