First Class Honors for 252 Students at UNN Convocation


The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, has seen a total of 252 students graduate with first-class honours degrees, according to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Igwe. This announcement was made during a pre-convocation press briefing at the main hall of the University’s Enugu campus.

Prof. Igwe revealed that a total of 12,526 degrees would be awarded at the 52nd convocation, representing an increase of 1,082 compared to the figures from the 51st convocation. The breakdown of results is as follows: 252 first-class honours degrees, 4,834 second-class honours upper division, 5,883 second-class honours lower division, 747 third-class degrees, and 25 pass degrees.

In addition, a total of 1,438 postgraduate degrees and diplomas would be conferred during the convocation ceremony. Among these, 412 Doctorate Degrees, 961 Master’s degrees, and 75 postgraduate diplomas will be awarded.

The convocation ceremony will feature a lecture titled “Why Universities Should Lead The Way to A New Nigeria,” to be delivered by Senator Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State, on Thursday, May 9.

Prof. Igwe highlighted some of the achievements of his administration in the past five years and reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the university before the end of his tenure in June 2024.

During his address, Prof. Igwe mentioned the completion of 12 projects and the inauguration of two new projects, including a new building for the Department of Mass Communication and the long-awaited senate building. He emphasized the significance of the new senate building, considering it a major infrastructural achievement for the university.
