House Representatives Launch Inquiry into Escape of Binance Executive and Dismiss Bribery Allegations

An investigation has been initiated by the House of Representatives regarding the flight of Nadeem Anjarwalla, who serves as the Head of Binance Africa, from the custody of the National Security Adviser.

The resolution to proceed with the investigation was prompted by a motion brought forward during Wednesday’s plenary session by Dennis Okafor.

It is worth noting that both Mr. Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan were initially detained in Abuja, until Anjarwalla managed to escape and subsequently left the country.

In his motion, Okafor expressed that Anjarwalla’s escape was a disgrace to Nigeria and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances that allowed it to happen.

Additionally, the House categorically denied claims of soliciting bribes from certain individuals.

During a point of privilege raised by Kama Nkem Kanma, it was emphasized that there is no room for embarrassment within the House.

While Binance was not explicitly mentioned, it is notable that Richard Teng, the CEO of Binance, recently accused certain members of the House of demanding bribes from the company.

On Tuesday, Teng published a blog post on this matter, pointing fingers at the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes for seeking financial gains during an inquiry.

Kanma clarified that no such demand was made by the House to Binance and urged for decisive action to be taken.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, following ruling on the point of privilege, directed the House Clerk, Yahaya Danzaria, to utilize the media to refute these allegations.
