Fires razes over 400 shops in Anambra (photos)

Over 400 shops at the Old Motor Spare Parts Market, popularly known as Mgbuka Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, were ravaged by a fire in the early hours of Saturday, January 11. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the Chairman of the Market, Mr. Samuel Ezeobodo, mentioned that market security officials attributed the fire incident to a leaking gas in one of the shops.

Mr. Ezeobodo also confirmed the death of one of the market leaders, Mr. Godwin Edozieuno, who reportedly died of shock upon learning that his shop was affected by the fire.

According to Channels Television, the large crowd that gathered at the scene questioned the competence of the security guards, suggesting that proactive measures should have been taken to minimize the extent of damage in the market. Below are more photos of the incident:
