New incursion with a Russian seal that adds to a long list of incidents. In recent hours, several fighters from the Finnish and Swedish air forces have intercepted a squadron of Russian war aircraft, specifically a transport plane and an undetermined number of fighters flying over the Baltic Sea over the Gulf of Finland.
First joint mission between the newest NATO countries
It is the first joint mission of this nature between both Nordic countries – the last to join the Atlantic Alliance – which a month ago agreed to strengthen relations in defense matters and reinforce security on the eastern flank in the face of threats and a war in Ukraine that is becoming chronic.
Incidents with drones and fighter jets sent by Moscow are intensifying over allied territory, so some countries are beginning to take action. For example, in France, President Macron has already implemented a plan to confront hybrid warfare, protecting critical infrastructure and combating possible foreign interference ahead of the French presidential campaign.
