Preview: Finidi George set to lead Enyimba against Sunshine Stars

Enyimba’s head coach, Finidi George, is determined to guide his team to victory against Sunshine Stars in their upcoming Nigeria Premier Football League match. The game, set for match-day 31, will take place at the Akure Township Stadium.

George, a former Nigerian winger, believes that his team is fully aware of the importance of the match and the need to elevate their performance. Despite Sunshine Stars currently struggling in 16th place on the league table with 35 points, George expects them to put up a tough fight. However, he insists that Enyimba will be aiming for nothing less than a victory in Akure.

In a statement posted on Enyimba’s official Instagram page on Thursday, George said, “The team understands the significance of Sunday’s match. We will approach it with the utmost seriousness, striving to secure a win through our quality football.”

Sunshine Stars are coming off a disappointing 1-0 loss to Sporting Lagos on Wednesday. Despite a strong performance by the Owena Babes, they were unfortunate not to earn any points. Meanwhile, Enyimba claimed a 1-0 victory in their recent match against Heartland, propelling them to second place in the league standings with 51 points, just three points behind leaders Enugu Rangers.

The last time these two teams met in the league, Enyimba emerged victorious with a 1-0 win at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. Chijioke Mbaoma’s late first-half goal was the difference-maker in that fixture.

A win for Enyimba in the upcoming clash could see them level on points with Rangers if the league leaders stumble in their match against Rivers United on Sunday. On the other hand, a victory for Sunshine Stars would help them distance themselves from the relegation zone.
