Arrest Made: 19-Year-Old Male Apprehended for Assaulting a Minor in Kwara State

In a recent development, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has captured a 19-year-old male, Jamiu Akande, on accusations of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in the Pakata Area of Ilorin, situated in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Sources close to the NSCDC reveal that the suspect initiated the illicit act with the victim back in December 2023 and has been engaging in inappropriate conduct with her on a regular basis.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of NSCDC, Ayoola Michael ASC, disclosed that the suspect, known to frequently visit Babareke House in Ipata Oloje, began sexually assaulting the victim on December 1, 2023.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect would often visit the victim’s residence under the pretext of meeting a friend, thus gaining access to the victim.

He enticed the victim to an unfinished building on December 1, 2023, where he committed the assault. Furthermore, on April 16, 2024, he sent her to purchase bread for him and then took her to a rundown building where he continued to engage in inappropriate behavior.”

Following a distress signal from Babareke House, Ipata Oloje Area in Ilorin on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, around 20:30hrs, the case was reported to the gender unit of the command by Alhaja Yusuf Mariam Joke, the Director of Child Ministry of Woman Affairs.

Acting promptly, the Command responded and detained the suspect after intensive efforts by its officers,” Ayoola stated.

Ayoola disclosed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and will face prosecution in a court with competent jurisdiction.

Expressing disappointment at the rising instances of sexual assault and abuse of minors, the state commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Umar, emphasized the severe punishment awaiting perpetrators of such heinous acts.

He urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and ensure that their children are under constant supervision.
