Postponement of National Assembly Resumption Due to Renovation

In order to facilitate the comprehensive renovation of the main chambers, the resumption of plenary sessions for the National Assembly has once again been postponed until April 30.

Following the Easter and Eid recess, both the Senate and the House of Representatives initially delayed their return to April 23. However, the resumption of plenary was further postponed on Thursday.

The Clerk of the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, issued a notice announcing the rescheduled resumption and confirmed that lawmakers would be gathering in the main chambers upon return.

Since September 2022, both legislative houses have been operating from temporary chambers as renovation work on their revered chambers by Visible Construction Company Nigeria Limited, which began in July 2022, continues.

The notice stated: “Distinguished senators are hereby respectfully informed that resumption of plenary, which was earlier postponed to Tuesday 23rd April 2024, has further been postponed to Tuesday, 30th April 2024 at 11 am.

“The plenary sitting will be held at the main chamber of the Senate. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this postponement may cause our esteemed senators, please bear with us.”

Likewise, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media, Akin Rotimi, released a statement confirming that the House will reconvene on April 30 to ensure the completion of the constitution review process.
