Falana makes a plea for the reinstatement of Senator Ningi

In a request made by his lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi is seeking to be reinstated in the senate.

Representing the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Ningi was suspended on March 12, 2024, by the senate after alleging that the 2024 budget was padded with N3 trillion.

In a letter sent through Falana, Ningi accused the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of infringing upon his client’s right to a fair hearing.

He urged Akpabio to lift Ningi’s suspension or face a report to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, LPDC.

Highlighting that Akpabio subjected him to a trial before the Senate on March 14, the human rights lawyer stated this in a communication dated March 25, 2024, directed to Akapbio.

Quoting part of the letter, it mentioned, “At the end of the trial, you found our client guilty and announced that the Senate should suspend Senator Abdul Nigin (Bauchi North) for three months, strip him of all entitlements, bar him from the National Assembly Complex premises during the suspension period, demand a written apology to the Senate, and then contemplate his reinstatement upon displaying remorse.”
