Experience of ABSU’s Deputy Vice Chancellor in the Hands of Kidnappers

Professor Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) at Abia State University, Uturu, expressed gratitude to God for ensuring his survival during his time in the kidnappers’ den.

During a thanksgiving event organized by the Umuahia South branch of Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International, in collaboration with the office of the Chief of Staff at the Abia State government house, Emezue shared that his eleven days in captivity was a harrowing ordeal he would rather forget.

Emezue recounted how the kidnappers repeatedly threatened to end his life if their demands were not met, but he held onto his belief in God’s ability to rescue him throughout the ordeal.

He specifically acknowledged Governor Alex Otti for his dedication to ensuring his safety and appreciated the unwavering support and prayers from his wife, Kate Emezue, and the rest of his family.

Emezue also expressed gratitude to his colleagues at Abia State University, members of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International, and the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia for their support.

During the event, Caleb Ajagba, the Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti, highlighted the importance of faith in overcoming challenges, citing Emezue’s experience as an example.

In January 2024, Emezue was abducted by criminals in Umuahia while refueling his car, and he was eventually freed after being held captive for eleven days.

Governor Alex Otti later announced that the main suspect in the kidnapping case was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to flee overseas, with a second suspect also being captured in Port Harcourt.
