Ekiti State Government Steps in to Resolve Araromi Obaship Dispute and Emphasizes Non-Violence

A resolution was reached on the escalating conflict surrounding the selection of a new Alararomi of Araromi Ekiti, in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State, following a meeting with key stakeholders facilitated by the state government on Monday.

Tensions arose in the town due to the controversy over the selection of Prince Adebomi Babalola as the Alararomi-elect, with some contenders and interested parties questioning the legitimacy of the selection process.

During a meeting at the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye’s office, it was clarified that the government had no favored candidate but rather endorsed the choice made by the relevant ruling House and kingmakers after consultation with Ifa.

Chief (Mrs) Afuye reiterated that allegations of nepotism against the government regarding this matter were unfounded, emphasizing Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s dedication to fairness, equity, and transparency in matters concerning traditional chieftaincy within the state.

She assured the indigenes of Araromi, contenders for the position, and other stakeholders that the government would ensure fairness to all parties and adhere strictly to the Alararomi Chieftaincy Declaration.

Chief (Mrs) Afuye encouraged the contenders to view the selection process as a means to foster unity and solidarity among the people of Araromi Ekiti, portraying it as a scenario of cooperation rather than competition.

She appealed to those making divisive and provocative remarks to refrain from such actions to reduce the tension within the community.

Stakeholders were shown a video of the Ifa consultation during the selection process to further demonstrate the transparency that was maintained throughout.

Notable personalities present at the meeting included Hon. Ojo Atibioke, Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and Home Affairs, Rt. Hon Taiwo Olatunbosun, Commissioner for Information, and Hon Abayomi Folowosele, Chairman of Ijero Local Government, among others.

Traditional rulers present included Oba Joseph Adewole, the Paramount ruler and Ajero of Ijero Ekiti, Oba Ayodeji Adesoye, the Elepe of Epe Ekiti, Oba Emmanuel Adedara, and Princess Funmilayo Adesina, the Regent of Araromi Ekiti.
