EFCC clarifies: No list of 58 ex-governors under investigation for N2.187trn embezzlement

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has distanced itself from allegations suggesting that a list of former governors is currently under investigation for corrupt practices.

In a statement, the Head of Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Dele Oyewale, refuted the validity of a report titled “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion,” terming it as false and intended to mislead the public.

Oyewale emphasized that the EFCC has not released any such list and has not engaged in discussions with any media outlet regarding investigations into ex-governors for alleged corruption.

He highlighted, “We wish to make it clear that the so-called report is a deceptive creation with motivations known only to its originators.”

The statement further reads, “The public is urged to disregard this misinformation. It is crucial for the media to verify details related to ongoing investigations directly with the EFCC to prevent the dissemination of false information.”
