Warning from Governor Nwifuru to Defectors in Ebonyi APC

Cautioning against the formation of factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State, Governor Francis Nwifuru urged new party members to avoid actions that could lead to discord or turmoil.

Speaking at the funeral of late HRH, Christopher Igboke Ewa, who was tragically murdered in his home in February 2023, Governor Nwifuru expressed disapproval of defectors who have already begun creating cliques within the party.

He warned that failure to address such behavior promptly could jeopardize the existing harmony and solidarity within the party.

Offering a word of caution, Nwifuru pointed out, “Those who have recently joined our party and are already forming factions should tread carefully.”

Additionally, the governor voiced his dissatisfaction with reports of his appointees engaging in altercations during a defection rally at the Ezza North Council headquarters. He instructed the late Ewa’s family to select a nominee for a commissioner position.

Highlighting the need for unity, Nwifuru admonished the two local government chairmen from the area for neglecting their responsibilities and allegedly inciting conflicts.

He emphasized his stance on not handing over governance to factions in conflict, asserting that key figures like former Governor David Umahi, Chief Martin Elechi, and Senator Pius Anyim would play pivotal roles in selecting his successor.

Recent political turmoil in Ezza South and North Council Areas ensued after notable figures defected from the region, leading to unrest.

Assuring justice for the bereaved family, Governor Nwifuru pledged that the perpetrators of the late traditional ruler’s murder would be brought to justice. He urged the community to foster peace and shun animosity among themselves.

During the burial ceremony, Governor Nwifuru was accompanied by former governor and current Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, Senator Kenneth Eze of Ebonyi Central, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Ebonyi North, Senator Okorie Ani of Ebonyi South, members of the House of Representatives, State Executive Council members, and various dignitaries.
