Local Government Elections in Ebonyi Scheduled for July 20, 2024

The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, has officially announced the date for the upcoming local government elections as July 20, 2024.

Chairman of EBSIEC, Barrister Josy Eze, revealed this information during a meeting with representatives of political parties, security agencies, and stakeholders from the 13 local government areas and 171 political wards in the state.

He emphasized the importance of active participation from political parties and urged them to collect their nomination forms directly from the commission.

“In accordance with the constitution of Nigeria, the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, and related statutes, we hereby declare the scheduling of the local government council elections in Ebonyi State for 2024,” said Eze.

He also announced that nomination papers must be submitted at the commission’s headquarters in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as part of the election process.

Furthermore, Eze stated that the elections will take place on July 20, 2024, across all local government areas and electoral wards in Ebonyi state.

The current tenure of the EBSIEC Chairman is set to conclude on July 31, 2024.

Following the announcement, concerns have been raised by some local government chairmen and ward councillors, while the residents are optimistic about electing capable grassroots leaders to address their community issues.
