The Governor of Osun State, Adeleke, Responds to Reports of 10bn Naira Borrowing for State Projects

Reports circulating online claiming that Osun State’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke, borrowed N10 billion from foreign bodies have been refuted by the governor himself.

Allegations surfaced suggesting that Governor Adeleke had obtained loans totaling N10,022,382,348.40 billion from various foreign entities and organizations in 2023.

In a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke dismissed the reports, stating that his administration has not taken out any loans since its inception.

He labeled the report as false, clarifying that no loans have been acquired either through the State Executive Council’s resolution or that of the State House of Assembly during his tenure.

The governor explained that the finances mentioned in the report as loans were actually World Bank Development funding inherited from previous administrations.

Asserting that all state projects, such as road dualization, overhead bridges, school and health center upgrades, and various road constructions, are being funded through special project accounts established by the state government.

“No responsible government would abandon existing World Bank projects that are well-known nationwide and have benefitted numerous residents,” the governor emphasized.

“Governor Adeleke has not taken out any loans since assuming office. The financial burdens and commitments inherited from past administrations should not be attributed to the Governor, who is recognized for infrastructural developments,” the statement concluded.
