Dr Goodluck Jonathan advocates for a reform in Nigeria’s educational system

Former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, is calling for a recalibration of the country’s educational system, with a greater focus on technology and innovation.

This plea was made during the Founder’s Day Colloquium held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Igbinedion University, which was established on May 10, 1999, as Nigeria’s leading private university.

Jonathan critiqued the current emphasis on obtaining certificates, labeling it as detrimental to the economy.

He emphasized the need to discourage this mindset and instead promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills to develop graduates capable of driving the economy forward.

Recognizing the university’s success, Jonathan commended the founder for pioneering the establishment of private universities in Nigeria, despite facing initial resistance.

Addressing the need for educational reform, Jonathan highlighted the importance of nurturing individuals with technological proficiency from primary school onwards to steer the economy in the right direction.
