The president of the United States, Donald Trump, this Monday confused Spain with a member of the BRICS and has promised impose 100% tariffs to said group.
In the Oval Office, when asked by the correspondent of the Spanish newspaper ABC in Washington, David Alandete, about the contribution of less than five percent of several NATO countries to the Atlantic Alliance, including the Spanish case, has assured that Spain is part of the BRICS.
“I think Spain is far below. And, however, they are from the BRICS. (…) And, if the BRICS want to do that, that’s fine, but “We are going to impose at least a one hundred percent tariff on the businesses they do.”he declared.
What are the BRICS
The BRICS acronyms come from their founding countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africaalthough it is currently made up of eleven full members, which include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Iran and Indonesia. It also has several partner countries.
It is a multilateral organization that brings together various emerging economies and has been established as an alternative international space to the G7.
