Dismissal of UNIMED’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Over False Allegations Against Management

After a false petition was lodged against the management of the University of Medical Sciences, UNIMED, Ondo State, Professor Adolphus Loto, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration and Clinical Services, has been terminated from his position by the institution.

The decision to dismiss Loto was made by the governing council of the institution following an investigation that revealed the allegations made against the university’s management were unfounded and misleading.

A statement released by the institution’s spokesperson, Temitope Oluwatayo, highlighted UNIMED’s commitment to upholding high ethical standards and accountability while stating that any actions that could undermine the credibility of the institution would not be accepted.

Oluwatayo stressed that the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s behavior was considered a violation of trust and integrity. The council’s swift action was taken to safeguard the university’s reputation and its dedication to transparency and integrity.

The decision to remove Prof. Loto as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor was based on his misconduct, which included making frivolous, baseless, and unsubstantiated accusations against the university management.

Following a thorough review by the Petitions Committee of Council (PCC), it was determined that the allegations were false, groundless, and damaging to the university’s reputation, particularly given Prof. Loto’s position as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

On Monday, April 29, 2024, the UNIMED Senate deliberated on the PCC report and recommended the removal of Prof. Loto as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, with an overwhelming majority of voters, 100 percent, supporting his dismissal from the role of DVC Administration.
