Customs officer in Katsina dies in mob lynching incident

A tragic incident unfolded in Dankama, a border town in Kaita Local Government Area, Katsina, where a customs officer from the Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, lost his life at the hands of an enraged mob on Wednesday morning.

The chaos erupted when the driver of a truck, carrying goods and passengers, ignored the customs operatives’ directives to pull over for standard checks.

In a misguided action, a member of the customs team allegedly fired shots at the moving truck, resulting in the death of a passenger on board.

Following this, the mob turned their aggression towards one of the officers who sought refuge in a nearby building, only to be brutally attacked and killed.

Confirming the tragic event, Tahir Balarabe, the spokesperson for the command, identified the deceased officer as Awal Haruna.

Expressing his sorrow, Balarabe stated, “A mob incident at our outpost today led to the loss of one of our personnel who was carrying out his duty.”
