Court orders EFCC to halt arrest, detention, and prosecution of former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello

Granting a two-hour judgment, a High Court in Lokoja has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting, detaining, and prosecuting ex-governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

In a ruling by Justice I.A. Jamil, it was emphasized that any actions infringing on the former governor’s rights are deemed null and void unless authorized by the court.

The court’s order prevents the EFCC from taking any actions against the applicant and enforces an earlier interim injunction.

This development stems from Bello’s case alleging a violation of his fundamental human rights by the anti-graft agency, brought before the state high court.

The former governor had sought relief from the court to prevent unjust arrest, detention, and prosecution by the EFCC.

The court’s decision favored the applicant’s plea regarding the substantive issues of fundamental human rights.
