Court orders detention of a man for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl

A 32-year-old businessman named Raphael Moses has been remanded in a correctional facility by an Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, for reportedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

The presiding judge, Mr Michael Bawa, refrained from taking Moses’ plea and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for guidance.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 19 to await advice from the DPP.

The defendant was brought to court by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) on charges of defilement.

Prior to this, Mr Marcus Audu, the NSCDC Prosecutor, informed the court that the girl’s mother, Catherine Denis, lodged a complaint at the Corp’s Kafanchan office on April 22.

Audu detailed that Moses enticed the girl into his room and carried out the despicable act.

According to Audu, Moses was apprehended by neighbors who then took the victim to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

The prosecutor emphasized that Moses had violated the stipulations of Section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
