The worst corruption occurred under Buhari’s reign – Kukah

According to the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, the Muhammadu Buhari government experienced the most appalling form of corruption.

Kukah made this claim during his speech in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

He was delivering a lecture at the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the call to bar of the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN).

The lecture was entitled ‘The future of constitutional democracy in Nigeria: Necessity of a new constitutional order’.

While asserting that the trend did not originate under Buhari, the clergyman emphasized that corruption thrived during the former president’s tenure.

He stated, “We have witnessed the most abominable era of corruption in Nigeria. My friend Femi Falana, who is here with us, will expound on this matter as he has written a series of articles discussing what transpired during the Buhari administration.

“They were not responsible for the rise of corruption, but I believe that during the previous administration, we encountered the most repugnant form of corruption in moral, financial, and other aspects,” he added.

In his lecture, Kukah advocated for individuals of integrity within the judiciary, specifically at the Supreme Court.
