Rene van der Gijp’s Advice to Arne Slot: Consider Selling Two Key Liverpool Players

In a recent discussion on Vandaag Inside, former PSV winger Rene van der Gijp suggested to Arne Slot, the prospective new manager of Liverpool, that it might be beneficial to gradually phase out the club’s veteran players Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Van der Gijp expressed his opinion that both Salah and Van Dijk have reached a point in their careers where signs of wear and tear are becoming evident. He proposed that Slot, who is reportedly set to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, should begin considering the transition to younger talents in order to sustain the team’s competitiveness.

According to reports from Sky Sports, a tentative agreement has been reached between Feyenoord and Liverpool for Slot to assume managerial duties from Klopp starting next summer. Despite inheriting a talented squad with up-and-coming players, Van der Gijp emphasized that a strategic shift in personnel would likely be necessary to uphold Liverpool’s successful trajectory.

Van der Gijp remarked, “I believe Slot’s strategy should involve gradually replacing individuals like Salah and Van Dijk. There are rumors linking Van Dijk to Dortmund as an alternative to Hummels, offering a chance to compete in a less demanding league.”

“As for Salah, his departure could potentially be in his best interest. Despite his remarkable performances each season, the toll of time is beginning to impact him. This transition phase can be challenging as it affects one’s ego and standing within the team hierarchy,” added Van der Gijp.
