Abia State AGN Condemns National President, Rollas for Chapter Crisis

In Umuahia, members of the Abia State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) are calling on the national leadership to prioritize peace among actors.

During their monthly meeting on Wednesday, the AGN members accused the National President, Emeka Rollas, of fueling turmoil within the Abia AGN.

Nathaniel Nwoko, Daniel Egwu, and Chukwuemeka Onyekwere, the Public Relations Officer of Abia AGN, expressed frustration that David Amalaha, who was elected as Abia State Chairman in May 2023, has not received recognition from Rollas.

Instead, they alleged that the President installed Dorris Ogala as the interim Chairman of the Abia AGN executive, disregarding the duly elected executive led by David Amalaha.

The Abia actors claimed that the National President has incited numerous disputes and intimidated actors by submitting a petition to the Zone 9 Police Command, labeling some AGN members as affiliates of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Additionally, they noted that certain actors in the Abia chapter were disavowed through a media release.

Furthermore, they stated that the families of deceased actors from Abia State have not received compensation from the AGN National office despite their significant contributions to the film industry.

The actors informed that the David Amalaha-led executive has taken legal action at the High Court, Umuahia, to uphold their fundamental human rights, advising the AGN National body to defer to the court’s decision.

They assured compliance with any judgment issued by the court.

“The disruption in the AGN within the state was caused by the National office, including President Emeka Rollas. They should refrain from establishing opposing factions that undermine the positive initiatives of the Chairman here,” they demanded.
